Frank Johnson reports a murder of which he is the only eyewitness. However, when the police tell him that the victim was the key witness in a trial against the mafia, Frank runs away. The police seek help from Frank's indifferent wife Eleanor, but she is unable to help. The suspicious attitude of the police makes Eleanor decide to confide in journalist Dan Legget. Together they hope to find Frank before he falls victim to the mafia too.
