Young Frankie Rogers begins his life badly. The son of a drunkard and an abused mother, Frankie becomes a thief and is placed in reform school. The years pass quietly at the institute and Frankie grows up to be a young man. When he is released, he returns to his home village but is viewed by everyone as a criminal and goes to the big city. But then a bank robbery goes wrong and he becomes not only a thief but also a murderer.
