Elisa, an unmarried mother of two children, works in a cheap restaurant in Montevideo. She has an affair with her married boss, who keeps promising her mountains of gold, but doesn't keep his promises. After a big fight, Elisa grabs the cash and runs off. To earn a living, she and her friend Lulú work in a brothel. Placido, the co-owner of the brothel, also has women working for him in Barcelona.
