Elmer (Buster Keaton) works as a cleaner in a theater. There he falls hopelessly in love with superstar Trilby Drew (Dorothy Sebastian). He dons a different suit for each of her 35 appearances. She marries him because she thinks he is very rich. Once she finds out the truth, the turnips are done.
