setback. Can't really stand in the shadow of the first Cloverfield yet, although it might be a bit silly to compare the two. In my opinion, Trachtenberg could have kept it much better with a simple genre piece that is separate from the whole Cloverfield thing. Now as a whole it feels more like two separate films that are badly glued together. The genre switch could have worked were it not for the rather boring CGI monstrosity and the mediocre 'action'. It all seemed rather uninspired.

Funnily enough, despite the continuous 'not, anyway' twists, it is also quite predictable in the end. The only thing that saves the film a bit is a Goodman who is on a roll, although his character is also portrayed rather bland in the end. That scene where he can't call Michelle a woman... The hints are not very subtle. Small 2.5*.

More than a decent claustrophobic thriller that was on the list for a while because of the considerable reviews. The biggest plus of the film is the fact that, like the female character, you don't really know what to do with a host. Why was she chained in the first place? Has there really been a nuclear or chemical attack? Or is he a vulgar kidnapper with a lame excuse? There is something strange about his behavior and his motives are not always clear? He doesn't always tell the truth.

It puts the viewer on the edge of your seat of curiosity. Goodman did an excellent job and Winstead was also on level. I found the other man annoying and could be taken out of the plot perfectly. Did little and his presence actually steered the plot in a certain direction.

The ending was exciting, but ultimately disappointing. In itself great that the man spoke the truth. The world was in the state like the one in War of the worlds, but reeling quickly. The effect was also minimal, too bad. Otherwise great movie!
