“Nick, ever do a virgin?”

Stays fun. Alicia SIlverstone is a rock-solid attractive, cunning and manipulative teen who sets her sights on the much older Nick (Elwes). And accept no rejection, which makes for some exciting and extreme scenes. The bee scene is a classic. It's easy to judge Darian's behavior, but Silverstone throws all her charms and charisma into battle. And she shows (just like in Clueless) that you can't possibly hate her. That's important, because it ensures that The Crush is not a one-dimensional stalker movie.

Mediocre film in which a journalist rents a room from a couple with a 14-year-old daughter. A fairly typical 90s domestic thriller. The course is predictable and despite the short playing time it quickly becomes monotonous. Not a bad debut role from Alicia Silverstone, who plays her role quite entertainingly.

Mediocre.

The real times when Silverstone could just thrive. Despite the fact that the films with which she really broke through were completely different types of films, it is nevertheless optimal to recognize that she fits ideally into these types of films. It's just a shame that director Shapiro then makes such a mess of it himself.

The Crush seems to aim more at psychology than at tension. A route that is often chosen within thrillers, only it is rather difficult to bring those kinds of concepts to happy endings. Especially when this is done in such a simplistic way as in The Crush. It's as if they wanted to think, but couldn't really think.

Silverstone acts well, Elwes only walks around like a sack of potatoes. The chemistry between the two sucks, and bad chemistry can also be a plus. The main thing is that Silverstone wants it, but is then opposed by everyone around her. Furthermore, reasonable direction, although it is all a bit boring on the visual level.

Due to the apartheid of the story and many cheesy elements, the film knows how to entertain at all times, but the content is more like loose sand. A film that could have been simple and it is, but it showed aspirations to be a little smarter. Those aspirations just collapse. It's nice that Silverstone was able to take advantage of these kinds of films, but it's not her best chosen project.
