A fantastic cast – Natalie Portman, Lily-Rose Depp, Louis Garrel. Zlotowski did a great job bringing them all together, and in just her third film – while the previous two weren't entirely convincing. Well, Belle Epine, maybe a little.

The cinematography is also excellent. George Lechaptois has clearly been around the block before—and with Zlotowski, too, by the way.

But that's about the end of the positive news. What exactly Zlotowski was trying to convey with this story isn't clear to me—unless it's something like the banal tragedy of fate, something of the unfathomableness of things, perhaps with the added aspect that it can affect anyone.

Apparently, it's not my fault that it doesn't work. The film is being dismissed almost unanimously, and here too, it's deafeningly silent. Well, the point of failed films is that they teach you to appreciate them more when they do work.
