Batalla en el Cielo plot

Marcos, a man of humble origin, is vexed by a great drama he has brought on himself. He and his wife kidnapped a baby for ransom, but the child died. Marked by this misery, Marcos seeks refuge with prostitute Ana, a rich man's daughter who entered prostitution to rebel against her origins and to satisfy her needs. In his quest for forgiveness, Marcos confesses his debts to Ana. He shouldn't have done that.

Batalla en el Cielo

Strange, dreamy and explicit film. Reygadas' directing is very strong, with lots of long shots and fantastic camera work. The acting is also good, and I can appreciate the somewhat dreamy atmosphere. Unfortunately, there are also some unsavory sex scenes and it takes a long time for the film to get going. And then with a ridiculous ending also throwing in his own glasses.

Indeed a strangely peculiar film with a plot that is not always clear to place. Marcos isn't exactly Mum's prettiest right now, and he's almost as often naked as he is with his clothes on. And his wife isn't much better already. A number of close-ups are even difficult to call functional.

Found the film in the second part more interesting in which redemption and penance are central. Fine images in general and Marcos' fat woman was fascinating, to startle when she gets angry.
