Interesting.

And that in an unusual way. House Of Sand will be incredibly slow for the average film viewer, but in that slowness also lies its power: time passes relentlessly, even in a remote place in the desert.
That fact is quite well developed and makes for a fascinating film.

In addition, the acting is also very good. The choice to have the same actresses portray multiple characters is quite fun and works.

And of course there is also the beautiful cinematography, perhaps the biggest advantage of this film. The pace may not be fast, but the number of beautifully shot pictures is. The location is perhaps the main character and is given attention as such.

3.5

Desert areas in Brazil. This was new to me too. This was pure sand like you would find in Chile or Bolivia. A special desert reportedly where the above-average precipitation is very high. In that respect an interesting and beautiful film.

However, I could do very little with it in terms of content. I like a slow movie, but here it moves along extremely slowly. Few dialogues, few technical changes such as camera handling or whatever. Except for those time elements, played with different generations by the same people.

What did gain my interest was the impasse in which the family found itself. Generation after generation, stuck or better held, not on a desert island, but an endless desert.
