SOMM: Into the Bottle plot
"Wine is simple. It's about everything."
“Somm: Into the Bottle” takes a closer look at the sommelier profession and wine production, giving the viewer a behind-the-scenes insight into how wine is actually made. Wise introduces us to some of the most interesting personalities in the world of wine and takes us to some of the most beautiful places. There follows a meeting with Jean-Louis Chave, the nestor of the Northern Rhone, and Jean Trimbach, whose family has been making wine in Alsace for 13 generations. We follow the grapes from the vineyard to the winery and are expertly initiated into the secrets of fermentation and oak barrels. Dusty old bottles, uncorked in moldy cellars, offer insight into the magic of bottle age. The director explores beautiful vineyards from around the world, from Italy's Alto Adige to California's Napa Valley.
