Sky High plot

"Saving The World... One Homework Assignment At A Time."

Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano) is the son of the world's two greatest superheroes, The Commander (Kurt Russell) and Jetstream (Kelly Preston). Everyone expects Will to become just as much of a superhero as his parents. But when he goes to Sky High special school, where the new generation of heroes are trained and only promising children are admitted, he turns out to have no superpowers at all! Soon, Will ends up in the failure class. It seems that he is so talented that he will never make it beyond "sidekick". Not really conducive to your self-confidence and in relation to nice girlfriends...

Nice, smooth and pleasant Walt Disney Adventure / Comedy film (a real family film), in which the acting is very nice and, among others, by Bruce Campbell (mister "Evil Dead" ), who can be seen in a nice bit part from Coach Boomer with superpowers (through his mouth), who funnily classifies everyone as "Hero" or "Help".

The title "Sky High" refers to a special high school for promising future superheroes. Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano), the son of the two most famous superheroes "The Commander" (Kurt Russell) and "Jetstream" (Kelly Preston), also signs up. However, he is classified with the helpers, because he has no super powers.

The fun and visually strong predictable story, knows how to entertain from the first to the last minute (takes about 95 minutes) and is full of comic-like action, annoying bullies, humor, funny finds (including flying school bus) , clichés and above all a nice cast, who obviously had a lot of fun making this film.

For Mary Elizabeth Winstead (in the role of student president Gwen Grayson whom Will falls in love with and who turns out to be a villain) it was one of the first films and she was a joy to watch and I actually thought the same was true for Danielle Panabaker (in the role of Layla, who is in love with Will and who can influence nature as a superpower), Kelly Preston (in the role of Josie Stronghold / Jetstream) and even Lynda Carter (as the school principal Powers), who was already well into his 50s.

It is indeed a superhero parody that is mainly intended for the youth, but a very fun one that I enjoyed even as an adult.

“In the end, my girlfriend became my arch enemy, my arch enemy became my best friend, and my best friend became my girlfriend. But, hey, it's high school.”

Nice. The special effects look really awful and the acting isn't great either, but the story about a school for superheroes is original. Sky High does not shy away from the well-known teenage problems and it is all predictable, but it looks nice. This is mainly because the film does not take itself too seriously and the actors also know how to strike just the right tone. Angarano, Panabaker, Russell, Preston etc. They are all on a roll.

Certainly as airy as cotton candy, but still very nice. A children's film, but very well executed and with jokes that only adults will understand (Warren Peace). Great cast with Kurt Russell (himself in many Disney movies as a teenager) as father, Lynda Carter (played Wonder Woman in the 70's) as principal and Bruce Campbell as instructor. Danielle Panabaker (girlfriend of Will) would later play in the series The Flash. Mary Elizabeth Winstead (with Spandau Ballet in the background every time she's on screen for a little bit at the beginning, funny) is delightful as Will's new love interest and would later play Bruce MacLane's daughter in Live Free and Die Hard and scientist in the prequel The Thing. Only Michael Angarano, who plays Will, I found a bit of meat and fish but does enough to empathize.

I can't deny predictability, but it could have gone in a completely different direction. Anyway, the story is quite nice, with the necessary puns served and there is plenty to laugh about. Visually colourful, well taken care of and the soundtrack is also great. But especially the cast lifts it up.

A nice movie to watch after looking at some darker pictures.
