A village is terrorized by some unscrupulous bandits and shortly afterwards gets the wrath of some forest spirits upon him. That medieval Japanese setting is always interesting to see, often at least as ruthless as we were used to at the time. Only nicely stylish, certainly the interior and the clothing of the higher placed.

The horror or the "boo elements" are still waiting until it really breaks loose in the last twenty minutes. Previously a lot of palaver and only minimal interventions of what a ghost could represent. A bit cheap all, sometimes more laughable than scary. That one-eyed cone with a long tongue, seriously?

More fantasy than real horror, not great at all, but hey, Japanese films are never to be sneezed at.
