Chicken plot

Richard and Polly are brothers. They barricade themselves in a dirty caravan on someone else's land. Their hen has stopped laying eggs and they have less and less income. Then, at the worst possible moment, the land where they live is sold. The new owner moves into the farm and cuts the brothers' electricity supply. Their already precarious living conditions are getting worse. Fifteen-year-old Richard has learning difficulties and needs a stable foundation, but his brother is restless and destructive. A chance encounter with seventeen-year-old Annabel, the landowner's daughter, confuses Richard, while Polly befriends boys who run a seedy fairground.
