In post-war London, Mary Justin runs into professor Steve Stratton, her childhood sweetheart. However, she is married to an economist and has chosen for sure and deliberate marriage. But meeting Steven reminds her of more passionate moments. Mary and Steve go their separate ways again, but when they meet again on a holiday in Switzerland, the inevitable happens.
