Schlafes Bruder plot
Johannes Elias Alder was born in a small village in the mountains of Austria. As he gets older, he becomes more and more at odds with the rest of the villagers. He also gets more and more love for music, especially for the church organ. After an acoustic miracle, he can hear even the smallest sounds and falls in love with Elsbeth, a girl next door. However, after Elsbeth marries someone else, Elias decides to end his life by not going back to sleep.
