Assassination (1967)

A well-crafted thriller, linked to film noir, where manipulating people plays a central role in the culmination of the world's top leaders. Ultimately, double-dealing is the core of the story, with the elite remaining unscathed. Funny, the so-called brother from Africa with the music of Born Free in the background. The street scene with the film's title in yellow letters. Also later in the film... film title Tomb of Torture, Cave of ..............., cleverly conceived. Silva does his best as an unyielding character. The whole thing isn't a clichéd story, which leaves room for interpretation. Furthermore, beautiful shots of cities in the 60s and impressive shots of the Berlin Wall. The music is top-notch as accompaniment to the visuals 3.6*

Monday afternoon as a wrap-up to Prime, since my free subscription was expiring, I took a quick look at the films there and the choice fell on this Assassination, which could boast decent ratings and reviews on MovieMeter, so it seemed like a 'safe bet'. Yet, it turned out I didn't connect with it nearly enough.

The story clearly revolves around a criminal who goes to work for a secret organization with a new identity as Hitman, making it interesting enough, you would say. Add the necessary 60s style to this, combined with a healthy dose of neo-noir, and you have a fine crime film where Henry Silva seriously has a bit of a nasty face and Stewart is very pleasing to the eye.

But still, it just doesn't work with this Assassination, which is seriously too slow and simply fails to captivate. And honestly, a day later I still know very little about the whole thing. I think that says enough. That is why, as far as I am concerned, it doesn't pass.
