A very underrated film if you ask me.
Anthony Steffen plays a man tormented by his past. For example, he thinks that his ex-wife cheated and he often has visions/re-experiences of that moment. Out of the frustration this creates, kills and/or tortures whores who look like her.
The plot takes a strange turn when he decides to marry Gladys (strongly portrayed by Marina Malfatti). After this, strange things start to happen and a number of people are murdered.
The mysterious and exciting atmosphere is well present in this part of the film. Helped in part by a strong soundtrack by Bruno Nicolai. Furthermore, I didn't see the complete series of plot twists at the end coming.
A special crime film with some giallo elements and even some horror towards the end (the resurrection of Evelyn). Also some nudity and bloodshed here and there.
Particularly because of the excellent atmosphere and the strong cinematography, I think this is a quite good film that I can recommend to fans of Italian crime/giallo films.

Despite a chaotic beginning and a title that is actually misleading, the film gradually becomes interesting after a while. In fact, you soon know that this is a film in which supernatural forces are not present, but is simply a pure whodunit story. And there are plenty of suspects. The location is well chosen: an abandoned castle with a lugubrious cellar and a few attractively furnished rooms that are used. Quite attractively displayed. The story has many plot twists, but the final twist is very surprising. And then there is a big surprise for the viewer when an acquaintance you think is dead reappears. Sounds like one of the plot holes in the movie, but if you rewatch that scene in question, it might be possible considering the lighter the confused main character finds. The acting varies in level. Marina Malfatti as Gladys and Enzo Tarascio as George play their roles well, the others clearly less so. There are quite a few sleazy moments. Erika Blanc as Susan, Maria Teresa Tofano as Polly and Marina Malfatti are not squeamish about taking off their clothes. What I did find a drawback is the fact that the main character manages to escape from his premeditated murder plans and executions. He gets away with it very easily. The mystery surrounding Evelyn is probably also an example of this. 6.5/10

A mix of gothic and giallo with a promising title. In its time it was apparently a legendary film with some more spicy scenes, but of course we are used to so much more so many years later. It all takes its time and it never gets really exciting. Still, I enjoyed the gothic atmosphere and the few twists. And of course the film has its cheesier moments to top it all off.

Bruno Nicolai's score is 100% what you would expect from a giallo score: experimental moments alternated with a soft female vocal. Just like Morricone, Cipriani and others did.
