Understandable choice of Mr. Horror. Fits in well with the rest. A slightly different concept, but finished within the lines. I thought the zombie aspect was sufficiently present. The emphasis wasn't necessarily more on the drama than the horror, or vice versa. Great mix of sweet lightness and bloody whining. Smooth, entertaining and not so mundane. Unfortunately, it doesn't jump into the deep end anywhere, which makes it seem rather safe and minimal.

Not that bad at all, although I had prepared myself in advance not to see a full-blooded horror film. Zombie Honeymoon is a romantic film that turns into a drama with horror elements... or something like that. Based on the story of Gebroe's sister who lost her husband during a surfing incident. Their favorite songs are in the film, as well as their wish for Portugal.

The film starts very smoothly and the chemistry between Coogan and Sibley was immediately palpable. The interaction with each other was fun and the newlyweds were genuinely happy. These two carry the film with ease, even when Danny slowly turns into a zombie. Sympathizing with Denise was effortless, but I also felt a little sorry for Danny.

The humor is scarce, but fortunately there is still something to enjoy in terms of gore. Although it's not much, especially for a zombie movie. However, the effects are quite well done for a low budget independent movie. A refreshing angle on the genre and the film holds up surprisingly well because it does not make illogical decisions or seek out genre clichés. Now the only question is where this director's 'future of gore' remains...

Zombie Honeymoon is more than a bloody zombie movie. It is a tragic love story and a bizarre comedy. The fact that the film is a successful mix of three genres makes the film a special case. Director/writer Dave Gebroe had a personal reason to write this story about the suffering of his two main characters because it is essentially about his sister who lost her husband in a surfing accident. Their first names are the same, their favorite songs are in the film, their dream to move to Portugal is also that of the characters in the film. The core of the film is a tragic love story. That characterizes the film even more than the gore that still looks good on top. This film from the series of films by Mr Horror presents has finally been seen after years of waiting in the DVD cabinet because, to be honest, expectations were not really high and the feeling of a simple cheap B-movie with a nice title was always present. So you see how you can be wrong. Now happy with the purchase at that time. 7/10
