Boo was up for grabs for one and a half euros in the Media Markt. The cover looked nice and this seemed to be a fun, American, ghost movie. That was unfortunately a bit disappointing.

The first half of Boo is fine, lots of scares, some cliché characters, weak acting, a great setting and at times quite scary due to, among other things, excellent special effects and cool ghosts.

But in the second half it sinks in, the acting becomes dramatic and it becomes very boring. For example, you can see scary moments coming from miles away. A very thin story is added in the form of the blond girl with her visions. No, it didn't seem like this was going to be him.

The last half hour I had to keep my eyes open myself, because it never got really exciting, but occasionally a bit ridiculous and above all very predictable. Asterisk.

Boo. To start with, this film doesn't exactly have the most interesting title and in terms of originality it is quite sad. Fortunately, the film is a lot better than the title, although it must be said that it is certainly not a good film. The setting, on the other hand, is good. The film is set in a dilapidated hospital, which is the most fun. The acting is weak but the special effects look pretty decent. Story got a bit too much of a good thing and got a bit boring after a while. In terms of atmosphere in itself every now and then quite okay, supplemented with a number of reasonable scares.

An early Ferrante.

This time even a serious attempt to create an atmospheric and exciting horror film. The contemporary audience will probably know him more from simple films such as Sharknado. However, where those shark films are a kind of parody, Ferrante takes a more serious approach here.

There are plenty of attempts to make it an exciting mix between paranormal findings and playful effects. There is never an ideal balance, but the film knows how to captivate. Also seems to have found an ideal location. I doubt Ferrante has added much to that location, seems to me rather found, but nevertheless it offers some advantage in terms of atmosphere.

The main strength of the film are the clumsy effects, which of course don't look good, but are entertaining. Enough variety in the threats here. It never gets crazy, but Ferrante leans enough on it not to let the tempo explode. It was also necessary because it would not have come from the characters.

I actually think Ferrante's status films are better, because otherwise this is mainly a bit of clumsiness in an abandoned hospital. Hardly anything exciting is built up properly and the film is predictable at all times. You can actually bite through it, but because it still looks pretty good, I'm willing to give it a 2.0*. Enough to comment, but nice and smooth.
