Typically French, funny in situation and dialogues. Lefèbvre, Mondy and Maccione were very popular in French comedies at the time.

Successful relaxation without pretension and ironic mockery of French "heroism".

Seen as part of a 25-part French comedians DVD box set. I had never heard of this first part of a trilogy. Was a great French box office success in 1973 and only had to let Les Aventures de Rabbi Jacob precede that year. The film is not of that level, although a comparison is not entirely appropriate. As a comedy, this one is more of a farce here, tongue in cheek in French. The humor is in the situation and how it gradually evolves into crazy situations without it becoming a thigh-shamer. (Self) mockery of the French army at the time of the German invasion is the order of the day. I really enjoyed this and look forward to the second part.
