Very nice gothic horror, with a Dutch twist. The fact that we are in the Netherlands can only be seen in the (scarce) exterior shots. That shouldn't spoil the fun, because it is certainly quite original for that time, the film has enough tension and mystery and a nice finale.

Particularly atmospheric story that gradually arouses the viewer's curiosity. Because what is actually going on? The viewer is left in the dark for a while. Well constructed and very beautiful setting. The mill and the house is a strong atmospheric location. In addition, the sets within the mill and the house create a sinister environment. The doctor's daughter is played by Scilla Gabel, certainly a beautiful appearance. Maybe a bit old-fashioned now, but still fun to see. 7.5/10

Nice "horror-light" film.

The interior shots of the mill are especially atmospheric.

Unfortunately, an unconvincing miniature was used for most shots showing the mill from the outside.

Unfortunately, the Dutch setting was not consistently maintained, because suddenly actors and actresses end up in a pub that has much more of a German Bierstube, complete with Pretzels, German beer mugs and glasses.

A singer warbles a song in semi-intelligible French.

The name of the character played by the handsome Dany Carrel (small but beautiful) is Liselotte Kornheim.

All the other characters also have German-sounding names.

Two other beautiful actresses grace the screen in this production: Liana Orfei (just between her Peplum films and her circus work ) and Sophia Loren's double Scilla Gabel.

She reportedly once underwent plastic surgery to make her look a little less like La Loren, because the resemblance was so great that it hindered her own film career.

I found Pierre "Winnetou" Brice's acting unconvincing.

Fortunately, there is also a real actor present: Wolfgang Preiss, who gives a solid performance.

The finale is on the weak side, but all in all a reasonably entertaining film, which mainly relies on the atmosphere.
