Wonderful film in which WC Fields plays himself - or a version of himself - as an actor/screenwriter who wants to sell his screenplay for his new film to the studio. So the premise has been taken from life. And also the best I have ever seen from WC Fields. Crazy situations from start to finish, good gags and an awesome chase to end the film. This film also contains some musical passages that, in my opinion, are very successful and well integrated. The young Gloria Jean had a beautiful voice and singing technique, that much is certain.

Sucker's screenplay was actually written by WC Fields and it took a lot of effort to get it past the censor. What we see is in fact a garbled version, with many references to alcohol, as well as raunchy humor and other things, removed. Shame! But fortunately there is plenty left to entertain you, from the fake gorilla, to the inside jokes, vulgar humor and the successful surreal atmosphere. Anything but a sucker, this WC Fields.

WC Fields tries to sell the script of his new film to a studio boss. He has never seen such a worthless nonsensical script. And that is exactly what we see here!! There is a before and after part. We start with some singing antics by Gloria Jean and we end with a big chase in slapstick style. This film is one big crazy chaos.
