Still had to chuckle every now and then about this film by John Carl Buechler. As said, the man is certainly no stranger to the world of horror films, but that does not mean that everything the man touches is also of high level. Certainly not as a director. With his Cellar Dweller, the main laughs are the ridiculous acting performances and dialogues and the very clumsy monster that always appears in exactly the same way, (mainly) does his thing offscreen and disappears again. A few funny moments, a lot of clumsiness. In any case, I have never seen a brutal monster defeated with Tipp-Ex. Especially everything seems to be a first time.

2 stars.

Mediocre horror work with an amusing premise that is weakly executed.

A plus for an original angle, but in terms of tension or horror you remain hungry. The creature looks cheap, the illustrations of the drawings look cool. 5/10

Seen on the Blu-ray release from Arrow, part of the Empire of Screams boxset.

The title, the story and the cool artwork of the case really got me interested. Unfortunately, the execution is a lot less. Mediocre creature feature that has little substance. The beautiful comic drawings are perhaps the best thing the film has to offer. The acting was terrible and there was very little tension, actually none at all. A plus is that the film only lasts 77 minutes.

The director also directed Troll and Friday part 7. Small role for Jeffrey Combs from Re-Animator.
