Juice plot
"In the Ghettos of Harlem you don't buy respect... you earn it."
Four Harlem teens discover that a friend has been killed in a shooting while playing truant for the day. They come to the conclusion that they are disrespected, and decide to gain this by robbing a grocer. However, the shopkeeper is shot by one of them. The other three are the only ones who know what happened, which is reason for the perpetrator to deal with them as well.

Reasonable film about four friends who hang out and play mischief on the street. The first half of the film is definitely the best and gives a nice picture of a subculture back then. The first half also resembles Spike Lee's early days. Not entirely surprising, since this is the directorial debut of the cameraman of a number of Spike Lee Joints. The second part is quite in contrast to the first half and is a lot more unbelievable when suddenly one of the friends becomes quite triggerhappy. But the movie is certainly entertaining.

Rather thin, hardly convincing plot that is not convincingly made by the limited actors. But quite atmospheric and it looks nice. And from the creative heyday of hip-hop and it shows.
