A painfully direct look into life in a Massachusetts insane asylum in the 1960s. Titicut Follies observes all kinds of events in daily life there, and it is quite harrowing to see. Many of the prisoners are clearly quite off track. We see completely deranged, paranoid tirades, we see grown men who can no longer utter a decent sentence, we see a Russian who, although paranoid, can articulate himself perfectly from his world view and for whom it is hell to be among the raving lunatics. to sit. We also see the interaction with the handling staff and guards, which isn't always pleasant either, to put it as an understatement - including harassment and coercive treatment. Everything is also shown on screen long enough for it to slowly get under the skin. A bare but fascinating documentary that makes you very uncomfortable. 4.0*
