Dragon Seed plot

"M-G-M's immortal production of the great novel"

The Japanese conquer a Chinese village just before the Second World War. The Chinese people decide not to go against the Japanese, but to submit to their fate. Jade is the only one who opposes this, and teaches herself how to handle a gun. When the rest of the village's population finds out about this, she gets some following.
