Chocolat plot
"The true story of the first black artist."
The film tells the story of Rafael Padilla who was born in Cuba in 1860 and was known as the clown Chocolat. He was the first black circus performer in France to achieve great success at the end of the 19th century. The distinctive figure of his time made him the darling of Montmartre, inspiring Toulouse Lautrec and appearing in the first films of the Lumière brothers. It was also the first artist to appear in commercials. Chocolat died in anonymity in Bordeaux in 1917. This film traces the forgotten story of an extraordinary man.
