Nice part 2 with the necessary action, story was a bit thin.

Acting also went well.

Effects were reasonable.

3 stars

Not much worse than part 1, I have to say, and I hope part 3 continues in this vein. It's not a high-quality film, but it's enjoyable to watch and provides entertainment.

Regarding the effects: They were indeed not of the highest quality, and I also think that you cannot and should not expect very high-quality special effects from a film produced in 1994.

A quick scare between all the Olympic Games, and I chose this Darkman 2. Did I know there were multiple installments? I think so, but did I expect much? Not really.

The only sore point is that Neeson has been replaced by Arnold Vosloo. Neeson was quite acceptable in the previous installment, while Vosloo comes across as rather bland and adds little acting-wise. The film itself initially has some positive aspects, such as a pleasant atmosphere and a creation that's pleasantly dark and not much different from the first installment. Kim Delaney is as beautiful as ever, while Westlake takes on a more role as a crime fighter in this installment, whereas in the previous installment he was primarily preoccupied with a personal vendetta. However unbelievable it may be that he's resurrected, it's good that Larry Drake has been re-engaged as the villain.

But otherwise, it's hardly innovative and mostly a carbon copy of the previous installment, and frequently too stupid for words. For instance, Durant's gun even sounds stupid, and it's completely absurd how Westlake changes his face and clothing in the finale to fool every henchman. He should have been exposed anyway because the height is no longer right and the clothes no longer fit. The script could have handled this very differently by not having him immediately go after the smallest one, and as far as I'm concerned, the fun quickly wears off. Despite all its flaws and quirks, I find the first Darkman highly entertaining and a cult classic, but this second installment was simply awful.
