Delicious! Enjoying the old days again and one of my favorite songs from the Kingston Trio "When the rain falls on my head"...
A whopper of a western over an hour and a half smiling with the clever hunches of the inseparable duo of Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Katharine Ross, countless robberies, gunfights, deaths and glorious views. That was before 1969. In fact, I think I must have seen this movie at least once then. Only I suspect. In our village cinema "Hollywood". For 5 Bf you could go there every Sunday afternoon for such smashing movies. In the evening the couples made love. We had to go to the provincial capital for the beautiful Bloody Marys.
The story is super-simple with, without much effort, flowing from one phase to the next.
This is well worth 4.5 points to me, with the feet up, relaxation.

Nice film to be classified in the drama/comedy genre and especially the latter is decisive. The humor is always present, in the situation and especially in the dialogues.
The insertion of the brownish old photography is a stroke of luck and gives the film a slight "true" cachet.
Paul Newman and Robert Redford are outstanding and Katharine Rosse also acts well.
Pleasantly surprised. Thought of a spiritless adventure film, but got to see an intelligent, well-constructed and captivating film, which has also survived the test of time magnificently.

I had a lot of confidence in Butch Cassidy after the first scenes jumped across the screen, which are formatted with an excellent filter. It immediately gives this film a distinct look that proves beneficial as the film progresses. Unfortunately, also as the film progresses, the film continues to lose momentum at a rapid pace until it's just a disappointment.
The acting is so-so. Together, Redford and Newman are a nice duo, but apart from each other I find the very boring characters. Babble and moan, I couldn't feel any sympathy for it in any way. The fact that Redford eventually also gets a love interest doesn't help the result, although that is mainly a matter of personal taste and something I don't like, I'll admit.
Visually nice shot and a camera that actively captures everything. The images when the gentlemen are riding are very nice and well shot. Furthermore, the film has beautiful locations and wonderful filters at times, the filters also immediately make a suitable atmosphere possible. Unfortunately, the filters are scarce, and so is the atmosphere. All images with an adventurous character (Bolivia) are suddenly poorly portrayed, so that it hardly manages to captivate.
The action scenes are quickly edited and properly arranged, although acted a bit silly. The way everyone moves doesn't seem to match a realistic shooting. The finale is okay, just like some explosions, otherwise I thought it was a bit too silly and chaotic in terms of action to impress unfortunately.
It was very difficult for me to get through the middle section. It starts well, ends strong, but in the center of the film it chooses paths that didn't suit me at all. Very tiring romance and a boring adventure. A classic for a number of reasons, but only a few of them convinced me. I thought it was a film that I had a hard time getting through.
