A reasonable drama/romance movie...

Actress Liv Tyler plays well...

It's not (partly) romance, but (partly) eroticism, I think...

Great camera work...

But not worth it...

I found this a wonderful film to watch. Also because of the beautiful setting in Tuscany. But also the idea. I would have liked to have been in an artist's group in Italy when I was 19. The story itself is not that great but that doesn't matter to me as long as the atmosphere is good. I did find the friendship between Lucy and the dying writer very beautiful and also the moment that Lucy confronts her father with the fact that he is her father. .

I found the ending a bit standard. Eventually she still finds someone to lose her virginity to, but almost the entire film little has been done to the storyline between her and what's his face. Which gave me the idea that they just chose someone to do the job just to get a quick conclusion. Also, that woman (Lucy's father's wife) suddenly wants to go back to England while there was no talk of that before. I suddenly found it all too easily made up and rushed.

But that's the only downside really. I did enjoy this movie.

I'm not really a Bertolucci fan and the only reason to see this movie was Stefania Sandrelli. Unfortunately for me, she only has a small role.

In the absence of a compelling story, the beautiful shots of the Tuscan surroundings, the poetic atmosphere and the soundtrack are actually the best parts of the film.

Liv Tyler doesn't do a bad job in the lead role, but the only one who really reaches a good level is Jeremy Irons.
