The Scoundrel's Wife plot
"When war comes home, everybody is a suspect."
In times of war, everyone is suspected. America is under attack. But what if your neighbors accuse you? During World War II, young men leave their Louisiana fishing village to fight. German prisoners of war arrive to work in the sugar cane fields. Every night the sky is lit up with explosions: enemy U-boats torpedoed American fleets on the coast. Amid these looming dangers, a love affair unfolds: the beautiful widow and the mysterious European doctor find each other. Together they rescue the wounded from the sinking ship, yet they become suspicious. The village priest decides to put an end to their fledgling love. A Coast Guard operative is tasked with exposing anyone who might have anything to do with the enemy. He seduces the daughter of the woman in question and forces the couple into a final confrontation in order to unmask all their secrets.
