The Wooden Camera plot
It is just after the end of apartheid, in Cape Town. A young black lad is wandering around the railroad tracks with a friend when a dead man suddenly falls from the train. One of the boys takes a video camera out of his briefcase, the other a gun. This chance meeting determines their future. By following the lives of both boys, The Wooden Camera pits their choices against each other. Madiba hides his camera in a wooden box and begins filming his township, his drunken father and the city they roam. His friend Sipho becomes a gang leader. Although they remain friends, they each go their own way. Madiba meets the rebellious young daughter of a wealthy, reactionary white doctor, and an unexpected friendship develops between them. Sipho becomes addicted to glue sniffing.
