"An education in love"
Francis Ashby is a lecturer at the strict education institute Oxford. The stiff Ashby, the best known successor to the Rector Magnificus, goes on holiday in the Alps for a while. There he meets the American Caroline and her adoptive daughter Elinor. Both ladies fall for the celibate scholar. When the ladies later visit him in Oxford, they force Ashby not only to choose between one of them, but also a choice between love and life on the one hand and celibacy science on the other.
