The Unnamable plot

"There are things on God's Earth that we can't explain and we can't describe."

My second, vaguely, inspired film on a Lovecraft story in the last 24 hours. Strange, sometimes low-budget 80's horror hits the spot for me and sometimes it's wrong.

This film is a typical example of a miss. The semi-romantic subplot does not come across and the special fx are of abysmal quality. No, it doesn't come across at all. Too bad, but that's how it is.

Even after the necessary alcohol intake, it does not work. Quite a miss if you ask me. It doesn't happen to me, maybe it does to others.

Aptly described by one critic as "Unwatchable". Not because it is poorly portrayed, but the characterizations are completely uninteresting, there is hardly any tension building and the result is downright boring.

It took me some time to find a Lovecraftian horror for the challenge that I hadn't seen yet, and that's how I ended up here. And there's a good reason I didn't see this one until now: it's a rather mediocre low-budget affair. It all takes place in Arkham, near Miskatonic University, where Lovecraftian stories circulate about untold and indescribable horrors, of people who have been damned for generations, and so on. This specifically concerns a house that is not in good order, and where a number of Miskatonic students have gone for various reasons. But it is not presented in a very interesting way, and is often even illogical. People who don't investigate even though they know something is wrong, or people who do so for illogical reasons (and immediately lose each other), except perhaps to serve as next slaughter food. Off screen, of course. The monster makes an appearance at the end, and still looks nice - but the fights with the monster are very mediocre. This didn't really make me happy.
