Actually still okay.

Certainly not the best Marvel, not even close. But given the low ratings, the low expectations may have helped. I also personally think it comes down to the role of Cage, who did look ridiculous. Nevertheless, some Cage traits are clearly recognizable.

Cage doesn't necessarily play his part badly. It's just the look that doesn't quite work, that wig first. There have also been a lot of silly attempts to make Cage look younger, but it just doesn't really work. He continues to look old.

In terms of action, there is certainly enough to see, despite the fact that the action does not always look good. However, it follows each other quickly and does not get boring quickly. Especially when Cage transforms into his Ghost Rider form, the film revives a few times, despite the fact that attempts are made to make him even tougher.

CGI is bad, but the use of colors is remarkably good. Cage's bright flame in his Ghost Rider form looks appealing. For the rest, a number of remarkably well shot action scenes and a number of details that make the story just a bit more fun.

Some stunts in the first half of the film, especially on the bike, are also exceptionally successful. The 110 minutes are still manageable due to a still smooth tone and reasonable tempo. Add to that a nice villain, who certainly knows how to be cool towards the end, on top and then you still have decent results.

It's a bit of a shame that the film lacks a kick and the good guys are just dull characters. Film also ends a bit too simple with the final phase, probably the budget ran out after some time.

Much nicer than expected.

By that I mean fun in the sense of funny, because given the designation "Action/Fantasy" I hadn't counted on such a large percentage of comedy.

I laughed out loud many times and giggled almost all the time.

Everything is so deliberately over the top that it is difficult to do otherwise.

This is especially true for the part of the film with the adult protagonists.

Matt Long and Raquel Alessi, as the young Johnny Blaze and Roxanne, I thought it was a good choice.

So far, the film has remained quite "serious".

That changes when Cage comes into the picture (too fast for my taste)

He mainly plays comedy, and although I don't like the man, I have to admit that he does it well.

Both Cage and Peter Fonda (Hollywood's tallest face?) have heads that lend themselves perfectly to serving as animated cartoon characters.

While Cage is no longer reminiscent of the appearance of young Johnny Blaze (Matt Long), Eva Mendes does look a lot like young Roxanne (Raquel Alessi)

The difference is that Mendes has the appearance of a sex movie actress.

The film immediately gets an upgrade when Sam Elliott shows up in the role of the "caretaker".

What a hell of an actor that is.

With little gesture and his characteristic voice he manages to steal every scene with ease.

I have nothing negative to say about the special effects, and the music is appropriate.

The stunts are clever.

I can't say what the comic-to-filming ratio is, because I've never read the comic.

I am not a fan of superhero comics.

If I can believe the statements of director Mark Steven Johnson (who also wrote the story for the film), the film stayed close to the original comic.

In the extras that can be found on the Blu-ray, he says, among other things, that he wanted to give the film the style of Sergio Leone.

I doubt whether I will watch the second part at the moment, but the first was not that bad.

Ghost Rider is an entertaining movie. A solid story with nice images and a cast that fits together well.
