My first movie I saw in the cinema. It was sold out and the employees even added folding chairs. (In those days that was still possible!) I was surprised as a 7 year old and thought it was a cool film. Everyone at school loved it.

The story is not much but amusing and humor which I really liked at the time. Like the Blinker films, this belongs to youth sentiment.

4*

The characters of Chris van den Durpel were very popular in Flanders about 20 years ago. Fast Eddy, Sylvian Van Genechten, Firmin Crets, Ronny King and of course Kamiel Spiessens himself were his best known and most successful characters. It was even a hype at times and it was only a matter of time before it had to be made into a movie.

Well, the film itself doesn't add much. Making sketches is quite different from carrying a film with a solid plot. Humor is something relative, but I suspect it is also time-bound, because the humor of that time doesn't seem the same to me as the humor 20 years ago. Just look at FC De Kampioenen where the flat sometimes sexist and "racist" humor/jokes really don't catch on anymore. Oesje's script is also not very original and is typical of its kind. A great injustice by some economic concern versus an underestimated sympathetic individual.

Maybe fun for the kids, but as an adult it didn't help me much. At the time it was a hit at the box office, but today it is rather an anachronism.
