In 1907 Austria, the rambunctious princess Olympia is temporarily banned from court life in Vienna. While waiting for the message that she can return, she stays at her parents' estate. There she accidentally meets the American engineer Charles Foster and it is love at first sight. However, when Emperor Franz Josef I recalls her to an arranged marriage, at the insistence of her mother, Olympia obeys. Her short-lived romance with the American seems to be over.
