I expected a little more from this.

The story has a lot of potential, but the execution is not always good. Some characters meet a very abrupt end, the ending is a bit vague and the film is a bit boring at times.

This movie consists of people walking down long hallways, a murder, more walking, another murder, and so on. Fortunately, those murders are often done well. There is not too much blood, but there are still nice finds. Taaffe O'Connell of course has the most memorable scene, while also providing some non-functional nudity. Also nice to see very young Robert Englund and Sid Haig was also good as the silent warrior. I can be brief about the rest of the cast: it's good.

The sets are quite nice, and the planet looks nice and desolate. Good use is made of painted backgrounds, and the interior sets are on par with those from, for example, the Alien series. A good example that a relatively small budget does not have to be a limitation.

The special effects are very charmingly 80's. Some stop-motion animation, prosthetics; no images from the computer, but practical effects, something we see too little of these days. Furthermore, the music is typical for the period: many nice synthesizer sounds.

This film is not as fun as Forbidden World: a bit more boring and with an occasionally slow story, but the "feel" was good and there were a few nice scenes.

An Alien ripoff by Roger Corman in which Freddy Krueger, Captain Spaulding and Laura Palmer's mother find themselves in a spaceship designed and decorated by James Cameron and Bill Paxton. But otherwise, Galaxy of Terror is actually not that interesting. Some nice nonsense here and there, some pretty nice effects and a great cast, but this film doesn't really stick around. It is quite slow in construction, with a large number of dark shots of walking crew members and just a little too little action and entertainment.

2.5 stars.

A film that takes forever to get into the swing of things. The film has an annoyingly unbalanced rhythm. The reason is that scenes seem to be haphazardly stuck together. The transitions between scenes are not smooth. Moreover, most scenes are also very poorly staged. As if, while shooting the film, they thought: “I think it would be fun to film an attractive woman being raped by a giant maggot. Later we will come up with a suitable story around it”. Then that story was forgotten because some scenes seem to have no connection with the story at all.
The decors are very good. Responsible for this was a young James Cameron who worked furiously with paper, cardboard and a glue pot and achieved something miraculous with those basic resources. The decoration is simply wonderful.
The same cannot be said of the characters played by renowned names such as Robert Englund, Sid Haig, Grace Zabriskie and Ray Walston. The acting isn't even bad. It is more the paleness and dullness of the characters that is a thorn in the side. And what about the fantastic lyrics they use. Tough and philosophical gems: “Finished, Cabren? There has hardly been a beginning”. Angry gems: “Stupid son of a Calebon bitch”. Mysterious gems: “I keep seeing something and then nothing”. Ok, that's enough with those pearls. Time for the final conclusion: Galaxy of Terror is not even a mediocre film.
