"Outnumbered A Hundred to One - Yet Fighting Like a Thousand Heroes in a Hell Spot Called Batasi!"
Sergeant Major Lauderdale is stationed in a British colony in Africa. After the colony claims its independence, Lauderdale is assigned to maintain the peace while the transition of power takes place. The trouble begins when African Lieutenant Boniface tries to overthrow the British-approved rulers. Suddenly Lauderdale starts to think whether or not he should rethink his own values and beliefs.

Entertaining but ultimately not really special film about the fortunes of a British army post in Africa. After the colony claims its independence, Sergeant Major Lauderdale (Richard Attenborough) must protect the people around him. Attenborough is hilarious in the overweight, initially rather ridiculous but ultimately sympathetic leading role. Visually it doesn't mean much, since the film was shot almost entirely in the British Pinewood studios and there is therefore little to no African local color.
