I looked at this one recently too.

Used to know him as "The devil take you!".

This film dates back to the early days of Spencer/Hill, but their potential isn't fully realized, as they don't yet appear as a duo, though they share a few scenes together.

The story itself is a dime a dozen; dozens (if not hundreds) of these adventure films were churned out in Italy every year, and this isn't exactly one of the best. Lots of whining and little captivating, or even exciting, action spectacle.

Only for the fans who really want to see everything from this duo!

A four, or two stars.

Terence Hill and Bud Spencer films are a childhood favorite of mine, and I used to love watching them, especially on a German TV channel because that's when the sound was best. Their films were never particularly high-quality, but they were always entertaining and often brought a smile to my face. That's certainly true of this film.

This film was the first (and thankfully the last) production in which Terence Hill and Bud Spencer play pirates. It's not a particularly good combination, as the film looks very old-fashioned, and the same goes for the set design. Terence Hill and Bud Spencer also look awful as pirates and certainly don't look cool. The story isn't very compelling and is rather long-winded. The execution (the part set at sea looks decent, though) is okay, and despite Terence Hill and Bud Spencer (quite serious in this film) not being particularly successful as pirates, they still manage to make something of the film. There's also plenty of action in the story. Silvia Monti is a beautiful presence, and thanks in part to her, this adventure film is still a pleasure to watch.

The German television channels ARD and ZDF occasionally broadcast a Terence Hill and/or Bud Spencer film each year, but almost never this one, and I can understand why.

Bud Spencer and Terence Hill were an iconic film duo, known for their spaghetti westerns and action comedies full of brawls and witty dialogue. They appeared in 18 films together, but this film stands apart from the well-known Four Fists films. While there's little humor to be found, the film offers plenty of entertainment, including plenty of sword fights and pirate ship battles. It also features three charming women, with Diana Lorys being a particularly appealing presence. 6/10
