I can't believe my eyes, but in my opinion Pyun has made a really good movie with Nemesis. Movies like Cyborg and Knights are sincere guilty pleasures, but in this movie it seems that the best man in terms of script, cast, direction and action has made a real quality pulp movie for a change.

First of all, the acting, which is wonderfully good for a film like this. I never thought much of Gruner, but he is very much in his place here and can even be called cool. Bigger actors like Tagawa, James and Thomerson are also fantastic screen fillers. Also note a very young (and very naked) Thomas Jane, in a fairly short, but bizarre supporting role. We even encounter Jackie Earle Haley as a computer expert towards the end.

The action is over the top spectacle. Huge amounts of bullets fly around the ears, but then constantly filmed in such a way that it remains dynamic. I had initially hoped that Gruner would use a bit more martial arts, but all in all I never got bored because of beautiful scenes like where Gruner shoots himself down a number of floors through the floors, or the moment where he slides down a long muddy slide while shooting while fighting a cyborg.

The story itself flowed well and can easily nestle itself in the list of successful cyberpunk films from the 80s/90s. This is also mainly due to the fact that the special effects and make-up effects are definitely worth it despite the low budget, although I have to admit that the stop motion at the end was perhaps a bit too much of a good thing. Nevertheless, the final battle was too cool in all its pulpiness!

What a cool movie, I'm glad I was able to catch this gem on TV, as far as I know the DVD version is nowhere to be found in the Netherlands.

Pyun has made many bad films but here he surpasses himself in a positive way. The story is shaky on all sides but the setting is good, from the post apocalyptic beginning to the climax on Java and the pace is nice and high. Furthermore, the film has great action scenes with a few highlights and the cast, which varies in quality, provides the necessary fun one-liners. The cyborgs also look great after they have been shot to pieces.

Watched it today on blu-ray! I bought the boxset with Nemesis 1 to 4 via Amazon and started part 1 today.

I have never seen this series of films before so I gave it a try today and I must say it was not disappointing.

A very good (long) opening in the form of many shoot-outs, after which the story begins about people who inject themselves with a substance that makes them cyborgs (half human / half robot).

A bit of a vague story, but the action scenes were very well captured, a bit Terminator-like, we see a lot of shootings and a number of explosions, the main character ''Alex'' is constantly being chased by all kinds of people / cyborgs.

We also see a bit in the jungle and an explosive ending, there was also some real humor with that grandma and also a bit of nudity from one of the cyborg babes.

All in all a bit of a strange story, but the action scenes are very good!

On to part 2, I wonder if it's better...
