Part 3 of the four-part epic is, in my opinion, the very best part. Just an hour long mega-battle with real people (and horses and smoking cannons). Nothing came out of the computer. And it is beautifully portrayed. It seems like a giant ballet.

Prose comes to life, but (unfortunately) dies at the final chord when the drama is overblown with still shots of what we've already seen. Pity. Therefore just not 5*

A beautiful introduction with beautiful shots that run away from a painting by Rembrandt is followed after more than half an hour by a gigantic battle, which is also beautifully portrayed. Clouds of smoke, cannons, horses and groups of soldiers create visual chaos. In addition to this long massive spectacle, there is also some attention for our protagonist Pierre Bezhukov. He remains the most interesting character of all. In short, a wonderful episode and I think that the third part is also the best of the four-part series.

Borodino...

What an epic third installment. Rarely seen a battle in a movie on such a large scale as Borodino, which was also Napoleon's greatest battle ... It was not clear to me what was happening on the battlefield ... you are too overwhelmed by everything you see , but the whirlwind action and colossal scale of the battle was clearly palpable. Tolstoy was very critical of warfare, defining it as an organized gathering of people to kill each other. This part is also full of bleak reflections on human nature. You feel that Borodino was used to instill national pride in the Russians. Their patriotism and unity marked the beginning of the end of the Napoleonic empire.
