Hollands Licht plot
It is spoken of as if it existed, but it has never been seriously examined whether it is myth or reality. The Dutch brothers and film-makers Pieter-Rim and Maarten de Kroon went in search of the origin and existence of the much-discussed 'Dutch light', which has become especially famous thanks to seventeenth-century painting. The makers spoke to many experts at home and abroad, including artists, art historians, a meteorologist and an astrophysicist, to unravel the myth. The guiding principle was the statement by the German artist Joseph Beuys, who stated that the Dutch light lost its specific brightness in the last century for good as a result of the reclamation of the 'Eye of Holland', the IJsselmeer. There are just as many interesting facts as opinions, but in the end this film is mainly about one, typically Dutch sense: "We only have that looking."
