Film based on perhaps the most famous title in Agatha Christie's oeuvre, but to be honest I only knew it by name until now, so I was curious about this, since I had seen those other titles like "Death on the Nile" and "Evil Under the Sun" was also very amusing.

However, this film cannot match the films mentioned above, because it all looks a lot messier and the story only really gets going in the last thirty minutes.
There are also many lesser-known stars in the cast. Ok, you have Reed and Sommer (the latter was already somewhat faded by then), while the rest are more well-known character actors (Frobe from "Goldfinger, Lom from the Pink Panther series, Attenborough from The Great Escape" and Celi from Thunderball) , supplemented by a stray French singer.

Especially the first hour is quite slow and uninteresting, Aznavour sings no less than two muzak songs, which does not help the already slow tempo ( luckily he is quickly killed afterwards, so that he cannot start a third song ) and some actors are also quite difficult to understand with their heavy European accents.

The location of an abandoned luxury hotel in the middle of the Iranian desert is a good and original alternative to the original idea of the house on an otherwise deserted island.

Furthermore, there seem to be two different versions of this story going around, one based on the original book, the other on the stage version and has a completely different perpetrator. In any case, that invites you to take a look at the 1960s version.

Nice to have seen once, a meager seven, or 3.5 stars.
