Gripsholm plot
Kurt is a celebrated star in Berlin for his ironic lyrics. In the summer of '32 he and his girlfriend move to the Gripsholm castle in Sweden. There they meet a seductive variety singer and a spirited pilot. The erotic tension rises.

Nice movie. Based on a novella by Kurt Tucholski, about a carefree summer in Sweden. Although, carefree...the silent desperation about the future is palpable in everything. Tucholski has fled to Sweden from the rising Nazis, and thinks he can return to Berlin. But that is no longer the case. The film keeps it light. People still enjoy life. Nice to see how Tucholski and his girlfriend free a little girl from a children's home where she is abused by a harsh headmistress. Beautiful pictures of the Swedish landscape. Also well acted. And a whole lot better than the 1963 movie.
