The basic story of two sisters, the attractive Eileen [Janet Leigh] and the insecure Ruth [Betty Garrett], who move to the big city and must adjust to unfamiliar mores, offers little that's new. But the cast is excellent, and the musical interludes feature phenomenal choreography by Bob Fosse (who himself plays one of Eileen's courters), and the cast clearly relishes his playful dance moves. Competition Dance (a dance-off between Bob Fosse and Tommy Rall) and Give Me a Band and My Baby are personal favorites.

A nice feel-good movie with a predictable story, but with a great atmosphere!

Janet Leigh gives a good performance, but for me, it was Betty Garrett who really stood out as the sister. A film that also demonstrates how short-sighted the world was, and unfortunately still is.

Jack Lemmon is always a plus!

3*

An amusing feel good romantic musical with nice humor from the time when no one had ever heard of the Bechtel test or the woke DEI agenda.

Pretty priveledge is a theme that is brought to attention here (especially in the beginning), but with a certain lightness. Ruth has a hard time with the fact that her pretty sister gets all the attention from the men and she gets much less, but fortunately the writers have approached this theme with humor and maturity so that Ruth's character remains sympathetic.

She definitely gets the most screen time and is allowed to shine in this amusing, light-hearted story.

The songs are nicely written and really add something, the 50's vibe radiates from them.
