Interesting documentary about the now 73-year-old Hawking, who was able to research the universe partly due to his illness.

I've never read his book, but the documentary doesn't make it any less compelling. Both his family and friends were interviewed on a set built specifically for this purpose. It's amazing to see that you don't need arms, legs, and a voice to have a perfect brain!

3.5 *

In 1991, filmmaker Erol Morris made a documentary about both the work and the person of Stephen Hawking. Music by Philip Glass supports the story of this remarkable scientist through interviews with his immediate family, fellow students, and scientific colleagues. Although Hawking himself would have preferred his personal story not be included in the film, the combination of the scientific and the biographical adds value to "A Brief History of Time."
