Good romantic film about the road to success for a newsreader. A nice story that especially remains entertaining because of the behind-the-scenes image of the TV news. This even makes it a bit exciting towards the end. Michelle Pfeiffer plays a wonderful role and despite the age difference she forms a beautiful couple with Robert Redford.

Somewhat uneven romantic drama about the career of a newsreader, a variation on the A Star is Born theme. Nothing special, but still worth watching thanks to the good acting of Robert Redford and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Do you remember that sugary sweet hit by Céline Dione 'Because You Loved Me'? Apparently that song belonged to this romantic melodrama about a young journalist (Michelle Pfeiffer) who is apprenticed to an old hand in the journalism (Robert Redford). Let the ending of Dion's yearning song immediately be the motto of the film: 'I'm everything I am. Because you loved me'. You heard that right, Sally Atwater! Then you are a strong, free-spirited woman, you have to deal with a sexist stronghold. They judge how you dress, how you put on your make-up and whether you come across as feminine enough on the show. And then those comments! Honey. Sweetie. Would you like a drink, sweet cheeks!?

Oh Sally, where would you be without your personal mentor Warren Justice. His unorthodox strategy is to humiliate you to the core with harsh criticism, to hold up a mirror to you that his input remains vital in your future career. He is also known for giving former protégés extra life lessons between the sheets. In 2016, we call such a boss/subordinate relationship sexual harassment in the workplace, but in 1996 there was nothing more romantic. And do you know what the best part is? A strong career woman like you also believes that it is his merit that you are ultimately shining in the news world. I'm everything I am. Because you loved me...
