Solid film set in gray winter Istanbul. A young boy comes to the big city to live with a distant relative. From there he hopes (naive as he is) to find a job in shipping. Meanwhile, things don't really get together between the two. So it's quite a tricky situation in the end.

I thought it turned out to be a nice film, which mainly has to have the calm atmosphere. Director Nuri Bilge Ceylan calmly takes his time for silent scenes. One of the notable highlights is that the two sit and watch Stalker and especially what happens not much later.

The third film I have seen by this Turkish director and also his least. It doesn't come in the shadow of Winter Sleep who had a very strong last 1¼ hours. The shortcoming of Uzak for me is that I couldn't empathize at all with the two main characters who left me cold in Siberia. Well, and then there is actually little of this film left for me except for the beautiful winter pictures of Istanbul. I especially thought that Yusuf was a terrible character. All emptiness, nicely symbolized by the way in the tilted ship that we got to see at the beginning of the film.

I thought the movie was mediocre, not bad, but not really outstanding either. Lots of stylistic images that lasted endlessly at times. Lots of data, images and info that you can barely get started with. Silent film too, so you didn't have to rely on the dialogues either. Characters that didn't catch on, so yes.

Beautiful images of a snowy Istanbul. You can see that there is a professional behind the cameras, but in its entirety and for the plot it was just a bit too little for me.

A good movie is both enjoyable to watch and a movie that is noticed and stays in the mind. An unpretentious but powerful drama with a unique performance by both main actors, which shows a tactful direction. One of the attractive points of the film is the direction and cinematography. Another good point of the movie is the few dialogues, but appropriate. The film is a story of loneliness and alienation of people in today's life.
