A masked killer shoots striptease dancer Sugar Torch in the neck in Los Angeles. Detectives Charlie Bancroft and Joe Kojaku, who happen to be roommates, investigate the murder case. There are several clues, such as a painting of Sugar Torch in her crimson kimono with a bullet hole in it, which they find in her dressing room. Charlie and Joe meet some interesting characters, as well as suspects in the 'Little Tokyo' neighborhood, including the irresistible young artist Christine 'Chris' Downs, a student at the 'University of Southern California'. Charlie and Joe's friendship and the progress of their investigation are put under serious strain when they fall in love with Chris.
